A 500,000 acre cattle station in the Pilbara (northwest WA) is looking for one experienced machinery operator / irrigation assistant for work for 3-6 months or longer.
This role will commence at the end of April.
The property has 880 acres of irrigated cropping (20 x 40 to 50ha pivots) to produce their own fodder for the beef herd.
These roles are about 50% machinery operating work and 50% general labouring and maintenance on the irrigation systems.
Machinery work includes operating trucks and tractors for seeding, fertilizer spreading, hay mowing/baling/stacking, raking, discing, using loaders and telehandlers etc. The baling equipment is New Holland, Pottinger and a McHale square wrapper. The tractors are all New Holland, around 200hp. The station uses a Merlo telehandlers for handling and has a prime mover truck for carting bales.
Other duties include programming and operating centre pivot irrigators, mixing and applying liquid fertilizers and chemicals, and the repair and maintenance of farm machinery. Work will be a combination of machinery operating and some general farm labouring.
Pay rate is $24/hour and hours are between 50-70 per week. Free accommodation is provided in an air-conditioned donga with ensuite and meals are included as well. The station employs a chef so the meals are top notch! There is also a swimming pool and a shop on-site.
This is a fantastic job for people who are looking for a longer term machinery operating job with the chance to experience life on a cattle station. The station is right near the coast and there are plenty of great outdoor beach activities such as, boating and fishing when you have days off. Port Hedland is about 130 kms from the station, so people with their own transport can easily get into town, to the beach, etc on days off. This is a large station and there are about 30 staff during peak periods. Our most recent staff members in this role have been here for a full 6 months and genuinely enjoyed their experience.
