Seeking experienced machinery operators to start work in March 2019 for a large and progressive commercial mango operation spanning over 300 hectares in Katherine, NT (300kms south of Darwin).
These positions are available to permanent residents only.
You will be operating a variety of machinery on the farm including tractors, water carts, small trucks and forklifts. You will be required to work flexibly between two expansive properties boasting 85,000+ trees plus ongoing crop trials to be managed year round.
During the peak harvest season, which is towards the end of the year, duties will include tractor operation to cart field bins to and from the packing shed, small truck driving to operate the water trucks and tractor mounted forklift operating to load and unload bins. You will also -
- Operate a slasher and sprayer and perform routine maintenance on the equipment
- Be responsible for mixing water soluble solutions, replenishing picking machines in the field
- Fill mango wash tanks and complete water changes on picking machines throughout the day
- Drive a manual tractor with forklift to move mango bins between the field and packing facility
- Operate the FL to load and unload bins at the packing facility
A chemical certificate and a forklift licence are essential. Previous experience in a field/horticulural role would be beneficial however full training will be provided.
There will be some paperwork involved, a basic understanding of maths and a good level of written and verbal communication skills will be required. This work can be physically challenging in the hot and humid tropical conditions in the Northern Territory.
Own transport will be required due to the location of the properties which are 20-30kms from the town centre and easily accessible by 2WD. Accommodation may be available on site at the discretion of the management. There is plenty of suitable accommodation in the town centre.
