A 5500 ha family farm in the Lake King area (4.5 hours southeast of Perth) is looking for an experienced farmhand with machinery operating skills for the next 5 months+.
We are looking for someone with both machinery and livestock experience who is open to doing a variety of jobs. The farmer is willing to train someone on the seeding machinery as long as they have good general tractor driving skills and are capable of learning quickly.
Between February and end of April there will be a variety of work such as pasture seeding, cattle work (the farm has 350 breeding cattle), fencing and operating a Case 245 spreader. Hours during this time will be around 50+ per week.
Once seeding starts at the end of April, this person will be operating a Case 485 4WD tractor with a seeding bar. Hours during seeding are usually 10-12 hour shifts, 6 days per week. There is no night shift.
Seeding should finish early/mid June, so this person can either finish up then or stay longer-term in the job. There will be work available for harvest season (October - December) as well.
Accommodation is provided in a 2 bedroom unit on the farm and lunch and dinner are supplied during seeding. The farmer's wife is a very good cook! A vehicle can be provided to get into town for shopping and errands. Pay rate will be based on experience, between $25-27/hour.
Applicants must have good English and a drivers license.
The farm is 15kms from Lake King, which is a lively farming town with a great sporting and social scene.
