Job # 27718 Location WA - Perth
Duration 2-3 months Suburb Northbridge

Hours per week 80+   ($25+)

Job Description:

The Job Shop is taking expressions of interest for people who are interested in operating either a header (combine) or chaser bin for the upcoming grain harvest season, October - December.

Our agency has recruited for the same farmers for years and we only work with clients who offer a good workplace and fair pay and conditions for staff. Many of these jobs are not listed on our website as we fill the roles with candidates who are on our harvest standby list.

We have positions for both header (combine) and chaser bin operators. All machinery is modern and in good condition with GPS autosteer.  Our clients are all over the wheatbelt in Western Australia - from Geraldton down to Esperance.  If you have a particular area you want to be in, just let us know.

Most farms in WA will start grain harvest in October and the season will last through December.  Some farms might start a bit later like the end of October or early November and the season will run until the end of December.  The duration will depend on the specific farm, with most jobs lasting between 8-10 weeks.

Staff can expect long hours during harvest, with most farms running their machinery on 12+ hour shifts, 6-7 days a week (weather dependent).

For all roles, accommodation is provided and some farms also offer meals while harvesting.

Pay rate will be negotiated based on experience level. Chaser bin drivers can expect between $23-26/hour and experienced header operators between $25-28+ per hour.

Even though these are machinery operating roles, staff are expected to assist with general maintenance work and some farm labouring when required.

Applicants must have the following skills and attributes:
- Previous experience operating large scale farming machinery
- Excellent English
- Drivers license
- Some mechanical skills to be able to take on general maintenance work
- Recent employment references
- Ability to work without constantly checking mobile phone!

We consistently receive excellent feedback from machinery operators that we place in harvest roles, many of whom return to their same farm or try a new farm for seeding season the next year.  Here is some feedback from one of our chaser bin drivers from harvest in 2017:

I'm doing great here. That is what I was looking for and you nailed it. I can do many different things on the farm and harvest is going well. Collin and Sandy are great people. They are so helpful. Collin explains everything so calmly and clearly and you were right, Sandy is a great cook! If there is something I don't know or I don't have experience with, I just ask them. I'm so happy that I had the opportunity to meet them but this wouldn't have happened if you hadn't sent me here. Many thanks to The Job Shop.

If you are interested in a job for the harvest season, please register and apply for this job online and email your CV to sky@thejobshop.com.au. Our staff will get in touch with you to discuss your experience and what options might suit you.
