The latest on the Jobs front

A lot has been happening on the jobs front for the past couple of months. The flooding and cyclone in Queensland have caused a big migration of backpackers from the East to the West Coast and we are seeing more and more backpackers looking for work around Perth and Western Australia.

Most people who have come to see us are looking for farming or regional work to get their second year visas. There has been some confusion about what jobs count towards extending your visa, so we've posted a link to our Facebook page with some useful information - check it out here

We do have some farming jobs available, but we are looking for specific types of people for the following roles:

Seeding Machinery Operators

Seeding season starts in April in the wheatbelt and we have many farming clients who are looking for skilled machinery operators to drive seeding equipment. For these jobs, you MUST have previous farm machinery experience cultivating and ploughing, operating seeding equipment or other large agricultural machinery and your own vehicle is preferred. Most farms will offer free meals/accommodation plus a generous hourly wage (usually $20+ an hour). Experienced machinery drivers will be able to work LOTS of hours and save heaps of money. If you have any MACHINERY EXPERIENCE as described or know of someone who does, can commit to a job starting at the beginning of April until the end of June, then please contact us!

Harvest Work

There is very little harvest work in WA at this time. Carnarvon is still recovering from the floods of December and it has been very wet in the North of the state around Kununurra. The harvest work will be dependent on the weather and even if it stops raining in the north today, there will be no work for at least two weeks. That said, the harvest season in Kununurra will start picking up towards the end of March, so keep that in mind when making your work and travel plans.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page and website where we will keep you posted on the latest harvest work opportunities.

Stations

The pastoral areas of WA have received good rains which means the stations will be mustering later on in the year. Again it depends on the rain but mustering usually starts end of April. We need people with very good 2 wheel, off-road motorbike experience or excellent horse riding skills as well as some livestock experience. Station life is an awesome experience, to see what it's all about click here

Hospitality Staff

For those of you who are looking for work in the hospitality sector, we always have several country pub, roadhouse and cooking jobs available. Check our website for details.

No matter what type of job you are applying for, please make sure that your Job Shop profile contains your most recent CV that clearly demonstrates your previous experience and Australian references (if you've been working here).

We have new jobs coming in daily, so be patient and be sure to check the website and Facebook page frequently for updates.

Cheers,

The Job Shop Team
